Prime Minister of
Republika Srpska Savo Minić and other senior officials of the Republic of Srpska spoke today with one
of the world's most renowned economists, Columbia University Professor Jeffrey
Sachs in Banja Luka.
Prime Minister Minić said he was happy to have met with one of the most respected
global economic experts noting that the discussion covered general global
economic trends and ways to overcome the challenges Republika Srpska was facing in
this context.
"I was particularly
pleased to hear that Professor Sachs said he would visit Banja Luka again and that there was both the will and readiness for
cooperation, something Republic of Srpska will certainly need, given that formulation of specific economic measures is related to economic
trends in Europe and around the world", Prime Minister Minić said.
The Prime Minister said: "When you have a world-renowned economist as a partner, you can craft
economic measures in the best possible way".
Professor Jeffrey Sachs
expressed satisfaction with his visit to Banja Luka and excellent
conversation he had with senior officials of Republic of Srpska, noting that it was great honor for him to receive an honorary doctorate from the University
of Banja Luka.
"It is a great
pleasure for me to be here in Banja Luka today. I have been coming to this
country and the region for about a decade now and it is always a great pleasure to
return. I want to thank you for the excellent conversation we have just had; I learn
a great deal and truly appreciate it", Sachs said.
Famous Professor of Columbia University stressed that he was
always an optimist and that he believed the overall situation would be much better if
people in Brussels and Washington showed more understanding and applied logic.
"I draw hope from a very good meeting between the US President Donald Trump and Chinese President
Xi Jinping. It was a positive and constructive approach to ease the tensions
worldwide and I was also pleased to see the foreign ministers of Russia and
Germany meet, because if there were more dialogue, there would be
fewer wars in the world", Professor Sachs pointed out.
