Prime Minister of the Republic of Srpska Savo Minić and
Minister of the Interior Željko Budimir visited today the Institute of Forensic Medicine in Banja Luka and met with the Director of the Institute, Željko Karan.
During the meeting they spoke about the work activities of the Institite, its staffing and spatial capacities and ways to improve its work conditions.
Following the meeting, Prime Minister Minić emphasized
the vital importance of the Institute for the entire Republic of Srpska,
particularly regarding cases involving the determination of the cause of death,
traffic accidents, and serious forms of crime.
"This Institution possesses the
capacity and ensures its own full-scale operation solely through its own work.
The number of cases being handled increases year by year", Prime Minister Savo Minić said and added that they also spoke about the issues such as
staff shortages, additional space and certain specific regulations concerning expert witnesses and the Institute's employees.
The Institute processes over 3,000 cases annually involving
DNA analysis alone, which, as the Prime Minsietr said, requires special attention
from the Government of Republic of Srpska.
"The Government will provide full support for all
the topics we discussed. Today, we agreed on two matters that we will begin
addressing immediately, which are primarily of administrative nature", Prime Minister
Minić said and added that regarding the lack of space, options would be explored in cooperation with the Institute for
Transfusion Medicine of Republic of Srpska.
Željko Karan, Director of the Institute of Forensic
Medicine of Republic of Srpska thanked the Prime Minister and the Minister of the Interior for their visit, highlighting the institution's importance to
both the judicial and healthcare systems.
He stated that the meeting provided an opportunity to
present the key problems and difficulties the Institute faces in its day-to-day
operations.
"As I understand, there will be understanding
and support, so we expect working conditions to improve further in the
future", the Director of the Institute Željko Karan said.
