Ministry of Justice performs administrative and other professional tasks related to the competencies of the Republic of Srpska with regard to:

• ​judicial institutions and administrative supervision of judicial administration and correctional facilities;
• execution of criminal and misdemeanor sanctions;
• inspection activities related to execution of criminal sanctions;
• uniformed and lawful execution of criminal sanctions;
• organization and functioning of penitentiaries and correctional facilities;
• monitoring and controlling the work of the services;
• exercise, control and improvement of human rights of persons deprived of  liberty;
• keeping adequate records for the purpose of analysis with regard to functioning of the system of execution of criminal sanctions and proposing measures for their improvement;
• professional preparation of proposals for pardon and amnesty;
•  preparation of analysis, information and reports related to amnesty;
• transfer of prisoners;
•  probation.

  Ministry is within its jurisdiction responsible for:

• ​professional training of employees and creation of personnel policy;
• assistance in training of judges and prosecutors and tasks related to the work of the Public Attorney, attorneys and other legal services;
• communication with the International Crime Tribunal in The Hague in accordance with the law;
• administrative and other professional tasks related to taking bar examination, the exam for the bankruptcy manager and the notary exam;
• processing of the requests from domestic and foreign courts and other government agencies for the provision of legal aid, provision of expertise views  on international treaties related to extension of legal aid in civil law and criminal justice;
• active participation in preparation and drafting of laws within its jurisdiction;
• provision of expert opinion on legal projects at the request of other ministries;
• adoption of bylaws necessary for law enforcement;
•  preparation of the rulebook on exam for Bankruptcy Manager;
•  provision of information to the media about the work of the Ministry and other duties in accordance with laws and regulations of the Republic of Srpska and Bosnia and Herzegovina.

  The work of the Ministry is public.

The Ministry makes sure that the principle of publicity of work is applied in accordance with the Law on Free Access to Information.

In order to inform the public and achieve the publicity of work, the Ministry issues press releases, holds press conferences, interviews, and maintains other forms of cooperation with the media.
