Sector for Information Society officiates following administrative and professional tasks from the Ministry's jurisdiction: analysing and following development of information society in the Republic of Srpska and in the world, creating politics, strategies and plans of acting in the field of information society, preparing laws and other regulations from the scope of work of the Sector, coordination of development of informatics and the Internet in cooperation with other authorities in public administration, education and health system, proposing measures of construction of information systems for bodies of local self-governance units (city and municipal assemblies) that provide communication with republican administrative bodies and applying unified programme solutions as much as possible, defining concepts and interconnection rules for informatics interoperability, professional verification of projects from the ICT field in public sector, primarily in administration, establishing technological standard and standards of working procedures in the field of applied informatics and the Internet and taking measures for their implementation, promoting use of new technologies and creating new tasks in the IT sector, monitoring of laying down of regulations and its implementation in the field of infrastructure and e-business, tracking and advising on international contracts related to ICT, foreign investments in ICT etc, initiating and coordinating opening of development centres, techno-parks and cluster connection of production in the ICT field, promotion of information society within reform of educational system and coordination of the implementation of state projects related to the participation of ICT in the educational process, establishing standards and procedures and giving consent for acquisition of equipment and programme solutions, work and service providing in the field of informatics and Internet for the needs of administration and public sector, works for development of common computer-telecommunication network of state administrative bodies and other informatic and Internet resources in the Republic's property, development of methodology, technology and organization of information systems of republican administrative bodies, construction, development, maintenance and use of information-communicative infrastructure for the needs of higher education and scientific research institutions of the Republic of Srpska, establishing standards and procedures and taking security measures and data protection of information systems, promotion of long-term planning and administrating informatic-telecommunicating and Internet infrastructure, licencing certified authorities in the infrastructure of public keys, following and encouraging development of industry of ICT (software, engineering, hardware, consulting) of small and middle-sized companies and other activities related to use of ICT and promotion of information society in the Republic of Srpska.
