In the presence of high-ranking officials of the Republic of Srpska, a facility of the Student Cultural Centre of the University of Banja Luka was formally opened in Banja Luka. An investment of 2,300,000 BAM from the capital investments of the Government of Srpska was made into this project.
The opening ceremony of the Centre in the University City was attended by the President of the Republic of Srpska, Milorad Dodik, the Minister of Scientific and Technological Development and Higher Education, Željko Budimir, the Minister of Education and Culture, Željka Stojičić, the Rector of the University of Banja Luka, Radoslav Gajanin, and other distinguished guests from public, scientific, and social life.
The Student Cultural Centre of the University of Banja Luka, located in the fourth pavilion of the "Nikola Tesla" Student Centre in the University City, is primarily intended for students to hold cultural events such as theatre performances, film screenings, exhibitions, promotions, and other important cultural events.
The Minister of Scientific and Technological Development and Higher Education of the Republic of Srpska, Željko Budimir, stated that investments in higher education will continue and be realised, as evidenced by the opening of the capital facility of the Student Cultural Centre of the University of Banja Luka tonight.
"I believe that with this facility, we have obtained the best stage, thereby elevating the cultural life in the University City. In this regard, the Academy of Arts will become independent in its work, and this will be a point where people will prepare for their professional work, especially in the fields of acting and other stage skills. I will repeat, with this, we have also gained an exhibition space, and above all, an institution that will enhance the work of the University in the fields of science and art," said Minister Budimir.
He emphasised that one of the biggest allies in investments in higher education, alongside the Government of Srpska, was President Milorad Dodik. "He initiated investments in our universities," the Minister said, adding that other ongoing projects, in which significant funds have been invested, will also be completed.
The Rector of the University of Banja Luka, Radoslav Gajanin, said that the University lacked such a cultural centre, which is one of the most significant capital investments, successfully realised with the help of the President and the Government of Srpska.
"Considering its equipment and so on, the Centre now represents one of the most modern theatre stages in Srpska, and even in the region. This will be a place for holding significant cultural events. Therefore, our teachers, associates, and students will gain new skills and knowledge there and participate in the realisation of various cultural events," the Rector said.
He said that exhibitions, theatre performances, and films could be viewed at the Centre, concerts attended, and similar cultural events.
The Dean of the Academy of Arts in Banja Luka, Dragana Purković-Macan, said that this cultural centre would positively impact the cultural and academic life of the citizens of Banja Luka and the students.
"We expect significant cultural, artistic, and scientific programs to be held here," said Purković-Macan.
