The Directorate for European Integration informs all interested applicants that the 35th Call for Submission of Applications for Technical Assistance under the Western Balkans Investment Framework (WBIF) has been published.
Basic information on the call, intervention areas, criteria for each intervention area, co-financing percentages and other relevant information is provided in the document Information on Eligibility Criteria for the 35th WBIF Call, which is part of the application package.
The deadline for submitting the first draft applications to the Directorate for European Integration is 21 August 2026.
When preparing project proposals, particular attention should be paid to ensuring that project proposals are linked to the Economic and Investment Plan for the Western Balkans (EIP), i.e. to an EIP Flagship (or fall within the scope of an EIP Flagship); that relevant adopted country-wide sectoral strategic documents are in place; and that project proposals are submitted in relation to the following five areas: sustainable transport, clean energy, environment and climate, digital future, and human capital.
Applicants are reminded that the basic requirements for applying for WBIF support are:
- The request for grant funding must be accompanied by a loan arrangement (which is either under negotiation or has already been concluded) between Bosnia and Herzegovina and one of the international financial institutions participating in WBIF (European Bank for Reconstruction and Development – EBRD, European Investment Bank – EIB, Council of Europe Development Bank – CEB, German Development Bank – KfW, World Bank, or French Development Agency – AFD), taking into account the applicant's future borrowing capacity.
- The relevant lead international financial institution must express interest in/support the proposed project and be consulted during the preparation of the application.
- Due to the financial obligations created, the relevant ministries of finance must be involved during the application process regarding borrowing capacity related to the proposed project (where new borrowing is involved).
Details on the application procedure and guidelines, including the application format, can be found in the application package: Document 1; Document 2; Document 3.
