Delegation of BiH led by Minister Bojan Vipotnik presented their views and arguments before the Implementation Committee of the Espoo Convention in Geneva, regarding plans of Croatia to build radioactive waste disposal facility at the location of Trgovska Gora, close to border with BiH.
In his opening remarks, Minster Vipotnik stated all issues which Republika Srpska is facing with, i.e. BiH during this procedure, highlighting that from the very begging everything was problematic-from selection of location, which does not meet basic requirements for storage of any, in particular radioactive waste to fact that Croatia has failed to include Bosnia and Herzegovina in research conducted on their side. „At no time Croatia took into account possible impact on environment in transboundary context, although BiH strongly opposes this activity as the location does not meet basic parameters for construction and use of such facility", said Minister Vipotnik.
After the meeting, Minister emphasized that the BiH delegation had good presentation and valid arguments, pointing out to key failures, facts and observations compiled over the years.
„I am very pleased", said Miinster Vipotnik, „we have justified expectations, which were in line with documentation we have prepared for Geneva“.
He added that Croatian delegation to this meeting came unprepared, did not have documents to support their views, which works in favour of interests of Republika Srpska and BiH, stating that BiH had exceptional presentation of the entire case.
„We will not give up international legal and institutional combat to prevent implementation of the project, which Croatia is trying to realize without full transparency and adequate inclusion of BiH in decision making process", concluded Minister Vipotnik.
