• balancing and long-term planning, monitoring safety and quality of electricity supply, internal electricity market development,

• granting concessions for exploration, construction and exploitation of power facilities,

• renewable energy sources promotion,
• participation in various activities in the field of energy and usage of natural resources at international level,
• production and processing of petroleum and petroleum products,

• production and promotion of biofuels usage,
• safe pipeline transport of gaseous and liquid hydrocarbons,
• taking safety measures in oil and gas supplies, drafting medium-term and long-term energy strategy (oil, gas and biofuels),
• analysis of the situation and business performance of the companies in the energy sector, proposing measures to encourage the development of oil, gas and biofuels sector,
• granting concessions for the construction of new facilities for the transport of oil and gas,
• exploration and exploitation of liquid and gaseous hydrocarbons (crude oil and gas) and other natural gases,
• geological research and exploitation of natural and technogenic mineral resources: metallic, non-metallic - including the resources for the production of construction materials, radioactive mineral resources, all types of salts and salt water, groundwater (potable, industrial, mineral, thermal, thermo-mineral) and geothermal resources,
• verification of mineral resources and keeping their register,
• keeping a register of approvals granted for exploration and exploitation,
• granting concessions for exploration and exploitation of mineral resources,
• keeping a register of concessions granted in the field of energy, mining and geology,
• supervision over the public enterprises and other enterprises with majority state ownership, which are under the jurisdiction of the Ministry,
• encouraging the development of relevant sectors by implementing economic and development policy measures,
• encouraging investments in local companies in areas of competence, through incentive measures and direct contacts with foreign investors
• monitoring the impact of economic policy measures on industrial production, production in energy and mining in general, as well as by certain areas and important companies,
• participation in drafting and adoption of relevant technical regulations and its harmonization with EU legislation (acquis communautaire),
• participation in development of the conformity assessment system and other fields of quality infrastructure (metrology, standardization, accreditation, etc.) in the Republic of Srpska and Bosnia and Herzegovina,
• participation in the European integration process and projects in the field of industry, energy, mining, geology and quality infrastructure,
• drafting laws and secondary legislation under the jurisdiction of the Ministry,
• other activities in accordance with the law.
