Minister Alen Šeranić is a medical doctor and an epidemiologist.
He was born in 1977 in Banja Luka, where he finished elementary school and Grammar School. He graduated from the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Banja Luka in 2004.
Minister Šeranić completed additional education in family medicine in 2007 and in 2015 he completed the specialization in epidemiology. He defended his Master's thesis "Human Resources in Health" within the Master's program of the Keele University, United Kingdom, in 2010.
Having graduated from the University, he worked as a doctor of medicine for three years in the Kljuc Primary Healthcare Center in family medicine department and emergency medical services department.
Since 2007, Mr. Šeranić continued his career at various positions in the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare in the Government of the Republic of Srpska. He designed important laws, policies, programs and strategies aimed at improving health of the population of the Republic of Srpska and achieved successful cooperation with numerous international institutions and agencies in the field of public health. He also held the position of secretary of the Association of Epidemiologists of the Republic of Srpska.
In May 2018 he was appointed to the position of the Minister of Science and Technology in the Government of the Republic of Srpska, and since October 2018, pursuant to the authorization of the Prime Minister, he had also held the position of the Minister of Education and Culture.
In the previous convocation of the Government of the Republic of Srpska, since December 2018, he held the position of the Minister of Health and Social Welfare of the Republic of Srpska and since December 2022, he is in his second mandate at this position. He is also the current Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Srpska.
He speaks English and French.
He is married and a father of two children. He lives and works in Banja Luka.
