The Minister of European Integration and International Cooperation of the Republic of Srpska, Zlatan Klokić, said this evening in Belgrade that the day of the adoption of Srpska's Constitution was one of the most important dates in the history of the Republic.

In addition to 28 February, the day of the adoption of the Constitution, there is also 9 January as the day of the establishment of the Republic of Srpska - Klokić told journalists in Belgrade on the eve of a ceremonial reception in honor of the Day of the Republic and 34 years since the proclamation of the first Constitution of the Republic of Srpska.

Kokić noted it was important to have these dates celebrated also outside the borders of the Republic of Srpska.

- Naturally, the most solemn event always takes place in Belgrade, when representatives of Serbian institutions celebrate these important dates in Serbian history together with us - Klokić stated.

Minister of Administration and Local Self-Government Senka Jujić said that Serbian people were proud to have their own Constitution and their Republic of Srpska.

- It is quite natural that we celebrate the Republic Day and the day of the adoption of the first Constitution also in Belgrade - said Jujić.

On 28 February 1992, the Assembly of the Serb People of BiH adopted the Constitution which was passed unanimously on the basis of the Founding Declaration and guaranteed full equality and equity of the peoples and citizens of the Republic.

The highest legal act of the Republic of Srpska, which is still in force today with certain amendments, was passed before the outbreak of tragic conflicts and the unilateral declaration of independence of BiH by Bosniaks and Croats after the referendum held on 1 March in which Serbs did not participate.
