The Minister of Administration and Local Self-Government of the Republika Srpska, Senka Jujić, attended today the Assembly of the Union of Municipalities and Cities of the Republika Srpska, which was held in Banja Luka. Minister Jujić addressed the participants of the Assembly and then participated in the Panel discussion entitled: "Financing of local self-government: challenges, risks and recommendations".
In her opening address, Minister Jujić emphasized, among other things, that local self-government, as a universal right, is one of the foundations of the constitutional arrangement of the Republika Srpska and a level of government that has a rich tradition and continuity of functioning.
"Local self-government has a key role in the functioning of modern society, and the right and duty of citizens to decide in social processes, which directly affect their daily life, is one of the fundamental democratic principles," said Minister Jujić, adding that the establishment of balance and alignment of interests between local self-government and higher levels of government is a permanent process.
The Minister also reminded that the financing of local self-government is one of the most important segments in the system of local self-government, to which she also gave significant attention to the new, third in a series of Local Self-Government Development Strategy in the Republic of Srpska, which covers the period 2023-2029. year.
"This Strategy represents an integrated, multi-sector strategic document that will serve as a framework in which the system of local self-government will be developed, and serve as a basis for creating strategies for the development of local self-government units", noted Minister Jujić, citing other significant activities carried out by the line ministry.
In the end, the Minister expressed her belief that after this session of the Assembly of the Union of Municipalities and Cities of the Republic of Srpska, significant and constructive proposals, suggestions and ideas will emerge with the aim of increasing the quality and efficiency of financing of local self-government units and that, in the future, through joint action of all partners, to do everything to achieve common goals.
